Specifiers, end users and fabricators have a choice of core types as well as the decorative face of plywood panels. Panels of different core construction have different properties that make them suitable for a variety of projects. The type of core should be considered with respect to its impact on fabrication, appearance, and durability of the final product and, of course, cost. Hardwood plywood core materials are available in five basic types: veneer core (generally softwoods), lumber, medium density fiberboard (MDF), particleboard and newer combination composite cores, which utilize a variety of core combinations.
